Anti-Aging Product Carried By Dermatology Associates of Atlanta Featured on Popular TV Show ‘The Doctors’
A recent episode of the popular medical TV show “The Doctors” featured interesting and effective anti-aging products. One such product was TNS Essential Serum – a Skin Medica™ product carried in the offices of Dermatology Associates of Atlanta. The product was of particular interest to the show, not only because of the fantastic results it produces (as evidenced by the before and after pictures that received audible ‘wows’ from the audience) but also because it was derived from a very interesting source: human foreskin.
Aware of the youthful skin cells found in foreskin, one dermatologist thought to isolate these cells and proteins and grow them in a lab to produce an anti-aging substance with over 100 growth factors called “TNS.” While the TNS serum itself does not contain any foreskin – it does carry its properties; meaning a regular application of the serum will promote youthfulness in skin. The serum works by stimulating collagen and promoting skin cell growth – reversing the signs of aging, diminishing wrinkles, and resulting in an overall more youthful look. In fact, ‘The Doctors’ loved the product so much that they gave away the serum to the entire studio audience!

Is Nanotechnology the Future of Your Skin Care Products? Dermatology Associates of Atlanta Discuss New Technology
Is nanotechnology the future of your skin care products? Some scientists and dermatologists think so. In fact, patents for products using nanotechnology are most rapidly growing in the cosmetic skin care field, including everything from shampoo to eye shadow. But there is a reason that you haven’t seen a surge of these types of products on your store shelves – the FDA still hasn’t determined its safety.
Despite uncertainty about side effects, scientists are hopeful about the future of nanotechnology and skin care. Because of their miniscule particle size, nanotechnology has unique properties and benefits not achievable by bigger sized particles in current products. A Medical News Today article cited sunscreen as an example. Currently, the larger particles used in sunscreen are what leaves greasiness and white residue on the skin; a sunscreen made with nanoparticles however, would have the same UVA/UVB blocking benefits without the leftovers on the skin.
With nanotechnology, the smaller sized particles more easily penetrate the skin, making it possible to deliver and absorb important nutrients and ingredients not currently possible with bigger particle size.
While nanotechnology shows great promise for skin care, make up, and anti-aging products, scientist are also hopeful for nanotechnology in the treatment of cancer. In fact, a recent animal study showed that nano sized shells of gold were very effective in the treatment of melanoma (the most deadly form of skin cancer) – creating the potential for a very effective noninvasive dermatological skin cancer treatment.
It is important to note, that while these advancements are promising and exciting, the FDA still has not determined the safety of nanotechnology on the skin. We at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta will work keep you abreast of any developments in this field or any other technology advancements.
Dermatology Associates of Atlanta offers Tattoo 101
Never pick a tattoo off the wall. Whatever tattoo you get will be with you for a looong time – most likely forever. So it is of the utmost importance that you get a tattoo that truly means something to you. This doesn’t mean that every tattoo you get must commemorate a deceased relative. Your tattoo can still be funny, girly, or ironic – as long as it has special meaning to you. If you spontaneously walk into a tattoo parlor, pick a design off the wall and get it done right then and there, chances are you will be sick of it about as quick as you made the decision to get one!
Be careful about placement. When you think about where your tattoo is going to be placed, you have to think about what your opinion will be on the placement 10, 20, 30, even 50 years from now! Try to avoid places that will start to sag or expand with age and make sure the tattoo can be easily covered with clothing if necessary.
Shop around for an experienced artist. Tattoo artists have portfolios that they are willing to show you in order to showcase their work; so take advantage of this and shop around! This is especially important if you are having a tattoo created especially for you. First make sure that your artist is good; then make sure your artist’s design aesthetic matches yours. Also of utmost importance, is making sure your tattoo artist/parlor is upholding the highest health standards for your personal safety. Being selective in the artist you pick will benefit you in the long run!
Cost should not be THE deciding factor. When you are getting something that will potentially be on your body for the rest of your life, do not be cheap! Make sure you are going to a high quality parlor with an experienced artist, even if that means paying more.
Do not neglect the aftercare of the tattoo. Once you put the time into planning for a tattoo and spending the money to do it, you need to make sure that you are also diligent about tattoo aftercare. To avoid infection, you must avoid harsh conditions, keep the area clean and moisturized, and allow it to heal.
While we at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta are happy to offer you our laser tattoo removal services if necessary, we would rather you be happy with your tattoo decision the first time, instead of going through the removal process. Keeping some of these tattoo tips in mind, might help you avoid the urge to remove it in the future. If for any reason you already have a tattoo that you wish to be removed, Dermatology Associates of Atlanta has the largest laser center in the southeast, with the technology to remove any color or size tattoo. Contact DAA today if you have any additional questions.
Popular Facial Fillers Now Approved with Local Anesthetic
Popular facial filler injectables are making the move toward painless injections by adding lidocaine into their products. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic, which works to numb the injection site and ultimately provide patients with a more comfortable experience.
The facial fillers now FDA approved for use with lidocaine are Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvederm®. These products work by injecting collagen or a collagen-like substance into the face to smooth out wrinkles and folds or to plump up lips and correct scarring. With the addition of a local anesthetic into these injections, the actual procedure will be more comfortable for patients without affecting results.
At Dermatology Associates of Atlanta, our experienced staff is well seasoned in performing every type of injection – whether it is a facial filler or Botox®/ Dysport®. Our in-house PA Delmer Henderson PA-C for example, had over 300 Botox®/Dysport® and 135 facial filler patients in 2009 alone! To develop a treatment plan specific to you, or to try a filler FDA approved with lidocaine, contact our office.
***Dysport® Love it or Leave it Challenge!! ***
Dysport® is currently running an up to $150 rebate special, challenging patients to try Dysport®! Patients can receive a $75 rebate if they try Dysport® – then after 15-30 days, if they love it, they can receive another $75 off an additional Dysport® injection. If they decide you go with another product (Botox®), patients can still receive a $75 rebate off that procedure.
