Dermatology Associates of Atlanta Now Offers Latest Tattoo Removal Laser, PicoSure
With over 25 years of laser experience, the providers of the Laser Institute of Georgia offer Dermatology Associates of Atlanta patients the most advanced laser systems for their skincare needs. Laser tattoo removal is a procedure that many people often seek when they no longer want a tattoo on their body.
No matter the reason for wanting to remove a tattoo, our experienced providers are skilled in removing tattoo pigments of all colors. Dermatology Associates is now offering the latest FDA- approved laser, PicoSure™ which can remove difficult tattoos such as blue and green pigments as well as benign pigmented lesions. Through PressureWave™ technology, the targeted ink is shattered into tiny particles. With shorter bursts of energy compared to the current nanosecond lasers, deep and/or dark tattoos can now be removed in fewer treatments. Patients benefit from this laser with better removal results in fewer treatments without the risk of injury to surrounding skin.
During a skin analysis, our providers will be able to estimate how many treatments will be needed for full removal depending on the size, color, age of the tattoo, skin type and amount of ink originally used. In general, homemade tattoos are much easier to treat than professional ones. As with all laser procedures there is a risk of scarring. However, our precise laser technology and extensive experience dramatically reduces the risk of side effects.

Dermatology Associates of Atlanta Discuss MiraDry on Atlanta & Company
Dr. Ashley Curtis and Mara Grosswald, PA-C of Dermatology Associates of Atlanta were featured on the daytime show “Atlanta & Company” last week to discuss miraDry® for sweating. This non-invasive technology can permanently reduce underarm sweat by eliminating sweat glands. Previously, underarm sweat reduction treatments included Botox® injections and topical products, which only provide temporary results, or invasive surgical procedures for lasting results.
On the featured segment, Dr. Curtis and Mara explained how the miraDry® procedure works by selectively destroying sweat glands to provide permanent results. Mara assured viewers that it’s physically safe to remove underarm sweat glands as they only account for 2 percent of your total sweat glands. As the first providers in Georgia to offer the miraDry® system, Dermatology Associates of Atlanta has treated many patients who have seen life-changing results.
You can watch the entire segment below. For more information about the miraDry® procedure, call our office today. Be sure to connect with DAA on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest for upcoming skincare events and specials.
Dermatology Associates of Atlanta Featured in Atlanta Parent
If you have picked up the February issue of Atlanta Parent you probably saw Dermatology Associates of Atlanta. Patients who bring in the featured ad before February 28th, 2013 can receive 20% off CoolSculpting®.
CoolSculpting® is the latest non-surgical fat reduction technology, approved for the flanks and abdomen. Patients looking to eliminate small pockets of stubborn fat can benefit from this treatment and minimal downtime. Through a process called cryolipolysis, cold temperatures are applied to targeted areas to freeze the fat. Since fat is gradually expelled through the lymphatic system following treatment, patients typically see full results in four to six months. Although noticeable results are shown after one treatment, many choose to have a second treatment for optimal results.

Skin Cancer Treatments Explained
As the providers of Dermatology Associates of Atlanta often stress to patients, skin is your protective barrier against germs, disease, and damage to internal organs. Skin cancer affects many people and can be life threatening if it is not properly treated. Our skincare specialists are committed to providing patients with effective treatments for all of their skin conditions and concerns.
According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. Non-melanoma cancers such as basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma are found at the base of the outer layer of skin. They typically appear on areas of the body that are sun-exposed including the face, tops of hands, lips and neck. Melanoma, although less common, is a very serious type of skin cancer that begins in the melanocytes.
At Dermatology Associates of Atlanta, we offer a wide-range of skin cancer treatments including cryosurgery, topical chemotherapy, photodynamic therapy, laser treatments and Mohs skin cancer surgery. Cryosurgery uses liquid nitrogen to freeze and destroy cancerous or precancerous skin lesions. This treatment is applied directly to skin and can treat basal and squamous cell carcinoma as well as actinic keratosis (pre-cancerous) skin growths.
Topical chemotherapy is cream used directly on the skin once or twice a day for several weeks, depending on your condition. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) uses an injection of a photosynthesizer and laser light to destroy cancerous tissue. Laser treatments may also be recommended in place of cryosurgery for patients who tend to scar easily. Our board certified dermatologists treat non-melanoma skin cancers in high risks areas with the most technically advanced treatment, Mohs skin cancer surgery. This procedure takes place on site, in our AAAHC accredited surgical suite, where our board certified dermatologists remove the lesion layer by layer without damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Mohs surgery is very precise leaving little chance for re-growth, and it is effective for removing skin cancer on sensitive areas like the face. For melanoma patients, a wide excision technique is used to remove the cancer and those with deeper high risk melanoma with questionable lymph node involvement may be referred to a melanoma surgeon.
Skin cancer treatments are most effective when the cancer is diagnosed early. It’s important to have an annual skin cancer body check to spot and discuss any skin conditions you may have. If you are interested in learning more about skin cancer, or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact our office.
