Fat Reduction and Liposuction at DAA Explained

dermatology associates of atlantaThe physicians and providers of Dermatology Associates of Atlanta understand that everybody is different and every body is shaped differently. For that reason, we offer a variety of fat reduction and liposuction procedures that aren’t one-size-fits-all. Whether you just want to tighten loose skin, get rid of excess fat, or do a little of both, we have a body contouring procedure to meet your needs. Our patients often ask about the differences in fat reduction procedures, so we’ve decided to compile an overview so that our cosmetic treatment patients can be more aware of all of their options.

Drs. Griffin and Karempelis have been practicing tumescent liposuction procedures since 1986, a method that’s still often performed today. In fact, a liposuction study published in ASAPS’ Aesthetic Surgery Journal earlier this year stated that 51% of surgeons preferred tumescent liposuction to other techniques. During tumescent, or “wet,” liposuction, a diluted solution containing a local anesthetic and epinephrine is injected to “puff up” the fat for easier removal. Most patients are able to get back to their normal activities within a week of their procedure, although they should continue to wear post-surgical compression garments in order to reduce swelling and optimize the fat reduction results.

While not exactly a fat reduction procedure, many liposuction patients also pursue fat transfer. During fat transfer, a patient’s own unwanted fat is used to plump up wrinkles and areas of lost volume that contribute to signs of aging similar to the way facial fillers such as Restylane® and Juvéderm work to rejuvenate the appearance.  After the excess fat is removed, it is purified and then re-injected into those areas that need refinement like the hands, wrinkles, and even acne scars. Fat transfer also promotes collagen production for ongoing rejuvenation. › Continue reading

Slim Your Shape with Dermatology Associates of Atlanta’s Newest Fat Reduction Technology: SlimLipo™

dermatology associates of atlantaAt some point or another, you’ve probably heard the phrase “stubborn fat,” or fat that doesn’t seem to budge no matter how much an individual diets or exercises. Since 1986, Dr. Edmond Griffin and Dr. Scott Karempelis have been taking care of their patients “stubborn fat” by providing safe and effective outpatient tumescent liposuction utilizing both traditional and cutting edge techniques to suit individual cosmetic needs. While liposuction results are greatly influenced by the surgeon’s skill, fat reduction is further facilitated by ever-advancing body contouring technology.  In the 25 years our surgeons have performed liposuction procedures, we’ve watched and worked with advancing liposuction technology. For years we worked with ultrasonic techniques that claimed to have an edge on traditional liposuction, but now lasers can more precisely target the unwanted fat for easier, safer, and more effective surgical removal. With so many laser liposuction systems on the market, it’s difficult to know which laser assisted machine you should choose.  That is why, after thorough research, Dermatology Associates of Atlanta is excited to offer SlimLipo™ to our Atlanta patients.  Despite its novelty, this technology has already become the top choice of laser liposuction methods by many surgeons.

SlimLipo™ laser assisted liposuction does not deemphasize the importance of selecting a properly experienced surgeon, but acts more as the “icing on the cake”:  resulting in faster healing, less drainage, and most importantly, skin tightening post- procedure. Our specialty center team at the Laser Institute of Georgia has long known the dramatic collagen production potential of laser skin resurfacing.  Now, the combination skin tightening and fat reduction benefits of SlimLipo™ laser liposuction allows our board certified dermatological surgeons to use micro cannulas to remove fat with less bruising, smaller incisions, less blood loss, and the best part—less downtime and faster healing. › Continue reading

Introducing Pellevé™ – The Latest in Wrinkle Reduction Technology

What does Pellevé™ do?
Pellevé™ is a skin tightening system that works to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, smooth the skin’s surface, and stimulate the growth of skin’s collagen to prevent further wrinkling.

How does Pellevé™ work?
The Pellevé™ device works by emitting heat energy; this energy builds up in between tissue layers of skin and fat on the treated area causing the tissue’s collagen to contract and become firmer. The firmer, contracted skin results in a reduction of wrinkling and tighter skin.

Where is Pellevé™ used?
Pellevé™ may be used on the face and neck to remove wrinkles and fine lines.

How long do the results of Pellevé™ last?
Results from Pellevé™ can last up to 6 months. Because Pellevé™ treatment results in collagen growth, improvement in skin health can be seen over time, especially with multiple treatments.

What does a Pellevé™ treatment feel like?
Most people feel only a slight warming sensation when the device is applied to the treated area. Slight redness can occur following the procedure, but is temporary. No anesthesia is required with the use of Pellevé™ as the treatment is virtually painless and requires no downtime.

Where can I get a Pellevé™ treatment?
Dermatology Associates of Atlanta is one of only two practices in Atlanta to offer Pellevé™. Contact us to schedule your consultation!
