Dermapen® for Multiple Skin Conditions
At Dermatology Associates of Atlanta, we are committed to providing our patients with optimal skincare. One effective treatment option for patients looking to address wrinkles, scars, stretch marks or acne scars is Dermapen®.
Dermapen® micro needling uses multiple microscopic needles to penetrate the superficial layers of the skin. Similar to fractionated lasers such as Fraxel®, micro needling creates very small wounds on the skin to trigger the healing process and production of new, healthy skin cells. Additionally, Dermapen® can be used to prepare the skin and facilitate the absorption of topical agents used during PDT (photodynamic therapy), PRP (platelet rich plasma), and other skin rejuvenation treatments. This skin renewal process can smooth the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and stretch marks.
Patients benefit from Dermapen® as the needle tips are adjustable to target specific areas of the face with different penetration levels for the best results. Dermapen®‘s smaller hand piece allows easier treatment for small, tight areas around the nose and upper lip. Most patients see results within a day to a week after the first treatment. Similar to DermaFrac treatments, most patients show minimal side effects including a mild sunburn appearance that usually subsides within a day.

Anti-Aging, Wrinkle Treatments at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta
At Dermatology Associates of Atlanta we want all of our patients to look as young as they feel. For patients looking for anti-aging treatments, our wrinkle reducing procedures including cosmetic injectables, Ultherapy®, laser skin resurfacing and eyelid surgery provide very effective results.
Cosmetic injections such as Botox® and Dysport® can help address crow’s feet, forehead lines and frown lines. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2011 Botulinum Toxin Type A injections were the most popular cosmetic minimally-invasive procedure performed in the U.S. Botox® and Dysport® work to relax wrinkle-causing muscles in the face. These injectables require no downtime and results usually last between three and six months.
For patients looking for full facial rejuvenation may consider Ultherapy® skin tightening. Ulthera® is an FDA approved noninvasive technology that uses ultrasound energy to target and lift tissue on the face and neck. Similar to cosmetic injectables, Ultherapy® patients enjoy the benefits of a quick recovery time and lower risks of side effects compared to more invasive surgical procedures. In addition the results are more long lasting than Botox® treatments.
With the advancement of laser technology, Fraxel® and DOT laser skin therapy are also effective treatments to lessen the effects of aging and wrinkles. The DOT laser selectively targets collagen-containing layers of skin by making tiny microscopic points in the specific area(s) of concern. The Fraxel laser is similar to the DOT laser and emits tiny, deep columns of laser light into the skin without affecting surrounding tissue. These treatments stimulate new, healthy tissue to replace damaged cells producing tighter, younger looking skin. The two treatments are quite different and DOT produces more down time but can present effective results depending on your skin and your problem.
Patients who have excess skin and droopy eyelids that non-invasive treatments cannot effectively treat may be better candidates for blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). During eyelid surgery excess skin and fat will be removed to restore a more vibrant awake appearance.
