Tiny Blood Vessels Of The Face

The Argon, Candela Pulsed Dye, HGM Krypton Lasers

Rosy cheeks are fine but who wants a rosy nose? Irritation of these blood vessels is usually genetic, but it can also be associated with sun damage, aging, and consumption of alcohol or spicy foods. The Argon laser remains one of the best treatments for this condition and the Laser Institute of Georgia was one of the first centers to offer it in Atlanta beginning in 1984. Distinct, small, facial vessels respond well without scarring or bruising with the Argon or Krypton lasers. For any remaining facial vessels or blushing, the Candela Pulsed Dye laser is ideal.

Warts, Cancers, and Benign Growths

The Candela Pulsed Dye, The Coherent Ultrapulse Laser

Despite all treatments, some warts are resistant. Recently, the Candela Pulsed Dye laser has proven effective in treating this viral problem. Although several treatments are sometimes necessary, patients are able to be active in their tennis or jogging during treatments. The ultra thick warts may only respond to the CO2 Ultrapulse laser. The CO2 Ultrapulse laser removes benign facial growths, such as aging bumps and lumps, with much less redness, puffiness, and crusting than treatments with the electric needle or liquid nitrogen. Superficial skin cancers also respond to this type of laser, resulting in fast recovery and no sutures.

Birthmarks, Portwine Stains, and Scars

The Pulsed Dye Laser

With its low risk of scarring, the Candela Pulsed Dye laser remains unrivaled as the treatment of choice for vascular birthmarks. Most pediatricians now recognize the importance of early and swift treatment of birthmarks, avoiding further growth or bleeding. The HGM continuous wave yellow light laser may be necessary for complete removal of thicker, darker birthmarks.

Scars (keloids) — especially pink ones — respond well to treatment with the Candela laser. After several treatments, the redness improves and flattening of the scar tissue occurs. Injections and silastic gels help improve these unsightly scars.

Age Spots, Cafe Au Lait Birthmarks, And Freckles

Q-switched Ruby Laser, HGM Krypton Laser, And The Q-switched / Neodynium YAG Laser

Liver, sun, or age spots, cafe au lait birthmarks, freckles, and certain moles all have an abundance of brown pigment. Patients dislike signs of aging on the back of hands and face where sun damage has occurred.

Laser treatment of brown spots is easy, requiring no numbing. Healing is quick without blistering or bruising. Bleaching creams, alpha-hydroxy acid, Retin-A, and sunscreens may help prevent new spots from appearing.

Micrografting Hair Transplants

The Coherent Ultrapulse Laser

Lasers are also now being used in hair transplantation. Dr. Walter Unger, a Toronto transplant specialist, is spearheading the technology that uses lasers in hair transplantation. Dr. Griffin has joined Dr. Unger as part of a group of hair transplant surgeons who teach new techniques.
