Of particular importance are the skills our physicians offer in blepharoplasty, liposuction, facial rejuvenation, Botox® and other facial filler products.
Liposuction
It's a little-known fact that dermatologists were actually behind the research and implementation of the liposuction cosmetic procedure. This is because they realized the complications in reducing one’s waistline – depending on the amount of fat removed – results in stretched and sagging skin to be taken care of. Who better to find a solution to this than those dedicating their lives to the study of skin?
Since then, this fat reduction procedure has evolved into other options such as SlimLipo™, tumescent liposuction, and CoolSculpting®. It is one of the more popular procedures to shrink the waistline, slim saddlebags, or even reduce the double chin, and is a cosmetic procedure utilized by many men and women. The goal of liposuction is to remove excess fat to give a younger, thinner look. The procedure is performed by our board certified dermatologists, Drs. Edmond Griffin and Scott Karempelis who have been performing liposuction since 1990. The downtime for liposuction varies based on the area done; average time to recuperate overall is about 1 week.
Cryolipolysis™/CoolSculpting®
Developed originally for dermatological cooling during medical procedures, the Cryolipolysis™ method is now FDA approved for eliminating small areas of fat without traditional, more invasive liposuction procedures. Dermatology Associates of Atlanta was the first provider in Georgia to offer the newest noninvasive liposuction system CoolSculpting, more commonly referred to as “cryolipo.” The procedure consists of using the device to emit cold to the targeted area, causing your body to unleash a natural inflammatory response to the temperature change and subsequently dispose of damaged fat cells through the lymphatic system (over the 2-4 months following the initial treatment.)

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
If you are experiencing droopy eyelids or bags under your eyes, undergoing a blepharoplasty procedure may improve your quality of life.
Eyelid Surgery or “Blepharoplasty” is a cosmetic procedure aimed at giving your eyes a more youthful appearance. Eyelid surgery will decrease the wrinkles and remove any puffiness above and below the eyelid. Over time, these folds of skin can grow heavy and decrease your field of visibility from the top, or give you an aged appearance from “bags” at the bottom. The procedure is performed in our certified surgical suite by our board certified dermatologists Drs. Edmond Griffin and Scott Karempelis who have been performing eyelid surgery since 1990. Eyelid surgery has a downtime of about a week, dependent on if both upper and lower lids are done.
Acne Scarring/Scarring
Many people can be left with minor or severe scarring as a result of their acne. Where some acne scarring can be treated easily with laser or chemical peels, most require a variety of treatments in order for all of the scarring to disappear. Dr. Edmond Griffin & Dr. Joseph Payne perform acne scarring treatments on a regular basis at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta. There are many factors that determine the best treatment or combination of treatments for your scars.
