Atlanta Laser And Cosmetic Surgery Center

Most of us have something on our skin we would rather be without-a mole, pockmark, or crop of freckles. Some feel self-conscious about little red spots, and others regret an impulsively acquired tattoo or live with prominent scars from surgery or a previous injury. And, of course, everyone eventually gets wrinkles-facial lines and ever-deepening furrows that tell of advancing age.

We offer the latest in laser and cosmetic surgery techniques, including liposuction, blepharoplasty, and BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Lasers: From War Of The Worlds To Your Home

Lasers have been in the public's imagination for many years. In 1899, decades before the creation of lasers, H.G. Wells in his War of the Worlds described aliens who attacked cities with beams of energy. T.H. Maiman, the American inventor of the laser, said, “All the news media could think of was wartime applications of lasers, such as a death ray device to destroy missiles, enemy soldiers, and invading aircraft.” After Dr. Maiman’s recent keynote address at a conference in Santa Barbara, Dr. Griffin asked him what present use of his technology is the most rewarding to him. He replied, “Without a doubt, the medical applications have already extended beyond my dreams.”

Dermatologists were among the first in medicine to use lasers. They seized upon it as a tool for treatment of skin problems. Other specialties have followed with uses in almost every branch of medicine and surgery.

Lasers: A Light Wave Into The Future

Finding Innovative Solutions to Old Problems--A Search for the Perfect Solution

The lasers in use today are far more specialized and advanced than those of yesterday. Lasers have been modified in diverse ways to perform many duties.

Lasers touch our lives every day. They are now common in our households in the form of CDs, video discs for movies, and CD-ROMs for personal computers. Nearly every retail store now uses bar codes, which are found on items ranging from magazines to canned goods or tubes of toothpaste. The clarity of our phone lines depends on lasers and fiber optics.

Dermatologists were among the first to use the laser in medicine for the treatment of skin problems. Most medical and surgical specialties have now harnessed the powerful laser for their use.

Our advantage is years of experience treating patients with the laser systems at DAA. Our Candela laser is used for treating troublesome birthmarks and portwine stains. The Krypton laser is used for removing small spider veins and red marks on the face. The Q-Switched Ruby laser is used to remove facial growths, age spots, and tattoos. The CO2 Ultrapulse laser is used for eyelid surgery, hair transplantation, and fine-line wrinkling, as well as for treatment of some skin cancers. The YAG laser is used for skin problems and can also be used for treatment of difficult and colorful tattoos.

Questions And Answers

Q. How Soon Can You Treat Infants With Birthmarks?

A. We have treated newborns within the first weeks of life. All studies now show that the earlier a portwine stain is treated, the better. Unless treated, the red birthmarks, “portwine stains” present at birth, remain for life. Those birthmarks that appear later in life, “hemangiomas,” may disappear on their own.

Q. Why Would You Treat A Birthmark (hemangioma) That Will Eventually Go Away?

A. These may go through a rapid disfiguring growth phase with bleeding and the laser may help prevent this.

Q. Why Should A Treatment With Lasers At DAA Be Better Than At A Neighborhood Hospital?

A. In addition to cost factors, DAA has more experience with a variety of lasers. We treat patients every day of the week.

Q. When Is It Time To Have Laser Treatments For Warts?

A. When warts are recurrent despite treatment with liquid nitrogen, acids, electric needle, or other forms of treatment.

Q. What Types Of Tattoos Respond Best?

A. Homemade blue black tattoos respond the best. Old professional tattoos, especially with multiple colors, respond slower and require more than one type of laser.
