miraDry®: New non-invasive treatment for underarm sweating

miradry in atlanta gaFor most of us sweating is disruptive in our day-to-day activities.  Searching for the strongest antiperspirants, trying to remove underarm stains from clothes, and avoiding summer activities can be discouraging. That’s why Dermatology Associates of Atlanta is excited to announce the new non-invasive procedure that reduces underarm sweating. Staying at the forefront of new medical technologies, we are the first in the Atlanta area to offer the FDA approved miraDry® procedure. All physicians and providers will be performing miraDry® at DAA. Mara Grosswald, PA-C, was the first provider at DAA to perform this procedure and is very excited about this safe reduction solution to underarm sweat.

The miraDry® system uses microwave technology to eliminate sweat glands under the arms. The technology selectively destroys the sweat glands, and since they cannot regenerate, results are long lasting. There are other treatments available to control excessive sweating such as Botox® injections, but these resultstypically only last for three to six months. Surgical removal of sweat glands can help effectively reduce sweating, but can result in complications. MiraDry® uses a special cooling system to prevent the patient from being uncomfortable and their skin from burning.

We perform this procedure in our office, and it typically takes about an hour. You will notice a significant reduction in sweating after one treatment, but for maximum results two to three treatments are best and vary by each patient. This non-invasive treatment requires little recovery time and most patients can return to their daily activities immediately. As an added bonus the hair follicles and apocrine glands are also affected, causing some hair reduction and decrease in odor.
