Popular facial filler injectables are making the move toward painless injections by adding lidocaine into their products. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic, which works to numb the injection site and ultimately provide patients with a more comfortable experience.
The facial fillers now FDA approved for use with lidocaine are Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvederm®. These products work by injecting collagen or a collagen-like substance into the face to smooth out wrinkles and folds or to plump up lips and correct scarring. With the addition of a local anesthetic into these injections, the actual procedure will be more comfortable for patients without affecting results.
At Dermatology Associates of Atlanta, our experienced staff is well seasoned in performing every type of injection – whether it is a facial filler or Botox®/ Dysport®. Our in-house PA Delmer Henderson PA-C for example, had over 300 Botox®/Dysport® and 135 facial filler patients in 2009 alone! To develop a treatment plan specific to you, or to try a filler FDA approved with lidocaine, contact our office.
***Dysport® Love it or Leave it Challenge!! ***
Dysport® is currently running an up to $150 rebate special, challenging patients to try Dysport®! Patients can receive a $75 rebate if they try Dysport® – then after 15-30 days, if they love it, they can receive another $75 off an additional Dysport® injection. If they decide you go with another product (Botox®), patients can still receive a $75 rebate off that procedure.
You have often heard aging woman complain that as they age, they are deemed “old”, but as men age they become more “distinguished.” The findings from a recent study about facial wrinkles can be added to the list of complaints…
A recent article in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal (the official publication of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery or ASAPS) published a study that found women to develop more wrinkles around the mouth area than men do with advancing age.
While dermatologists (and aging woman) have long suspected this was the case, this new study points to the differences in facial anatomy as the root of this discrepancy. For example, women have fewer sweat (also known as sebaceous) glands in that region of the face. These glands are oil producing and work to keep the skin smooth and wrinkle-free. Facial muscles are also closer to the surface of the skin in women than the muscles found in men, which may cause the skin to pull tighter and eventually be an additional cause for more wrinkles. Additionally, women have fewer blood vessels resulting in less blood flow, which may contribute to the problem.
Even though these factors may contribute to wrinkling in women, the best way to prevent wrinkles is to practice good skin health. That means practicing safe sun exposure, avoid smoking, and keeping your skin moisturized.
For women who wish to correct some of these facial wrinkles, injections like Botox®, Dysport® or facial fillers, laser treatments, or microdermabrasion can be the solution. Contact Dermatology Associates of Atlanta for more information or to schedule a consultation.
How do dermatologists use Evolence®?
As “skin doctors”, dermatologists are experts in all aspects of skin care – including the use of products like Evolence® to keep your skin looking more youthful and refreshed. When injected by a STAR™ trained aesthetic professional like board certified dermatologists Dr. Edmond Griffin, Dr. Scott Karempelis, and Dr. Joseph Payne at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta, Evolence® can correct moderate-to-deep wrinkles and folds around the nose, mouth, and forehead caused by advancing age. It can also fill in lost volume, such as sunken cheeks caused by the natural depletion of collagen, or sculpt areas of the face, like the chin and cheeks, for more balance and symmetry. Evolence® can even be used in the correction of acne scarring by filling deep depressions in the face with all-natural collagen. Dermatology Associates of Atlanta uses Evolence® because it causes minimal bruising, swelling, or even redness and is the first of its kind to last through 12 months.
Why is it important for Evolence® to be injected by a board certified dermatologist?
The skin is the largest organ in the body, so it is important that when considering Evolence® injections, you rely on a highly-trained, board certified dermatologist who specializes in the skin and face and understands the appropriate treatments for various skin care types and age groups.
What can patients do in addition to Evolence® to improve the look and feel of their skin?
The physicians at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta believe that every patient should have a comprehensive skin care plan tailored to their individual needs. That is why in addition to Evolence® injections, Dermatology Associates of Atlanta houses the Southeast’s largest laser center, offering over 20 lasers for treatments such as laser skin resurfacing, laser hair removal, and age/sun spot removal. In addition, their in-house medical spa offers over 100 skin care products and a variety of skin treatments that are performed by board certified dermatologists, physician’s assistants, and licensed aestheticians.
