At Dermatology Associates of Atlanta (DAA), we serve our patients’ individual skincare concerns by offering a wide variety of cosmetic treatments, from Botox® injections to laser treatments to non-surgical fat reduction. But one treatment that tends to stir up many questions is the Vampire Facelift®. We can assure you that it isn’t as scary as it may sound, and today we’re answering the most common questions patients have about this innovative procedure.

chemical peels atlanta gaWhat is the Vampire Facelift®?

While it is a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure, the Vampire Facelift® gets its name because it can take years off your face by using the rejuvenating properties of your own blood. Platelet rich plasma (or PRP) is a component of the blood which can increase collagen production and brighten up your skin, and the Vampire Facelift® combines this with the youthful volume of dermal filler injections to produce long-lasting wrinkle reduction.

What can I expect during the Vampire Facelift® procedure?

Dr. Ashley Curtis, one of our highly skilled board-certified dermatologists, will begin by drawing a small amount of your blood. The blood will then be put into a device called a centrifuge, which separates the PRP from the other components of the blood. Then, a combination of the PRP and the dermal filler that is best suited to your needs (like Restylane® or Juvéderm®) is carefully injected into precise areas of your face. It’s a brief appointment that involves minimal discomfort and downtime.

How does the PRP help with facial rejuvenation?

Depending on how much you know about facial filler injections, you may realize that the results are effective but temporary. One benefit to PRP is that it helps your skin to produce more collagen—the protein that makes young skin firm and radiant. When it’s combined with the immediate volumizing effects of the fillers, PRP improves the skin tone and produces results that last longer than the fillers alone. Plus, because the PRP promotes healing, you’ll have minimal downtime, unlike many other facial rejuvenation options.

Does the Vampire Facelift® require a lot of blood to be drawn?

No. The procedure only requires us to draw around 10 milliliters of blood—about the same amount that’s typically needed for medical testing.

Am I a good candidate for the Vampire Facelift®?

The Vampire Facelift® can be very effective for patients who have fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of facial volume with age. While every patient’s results are unique, some have found it to be an alternative to more invasive treatments.
