DOT Laser Therapy creates multiple microscopic wounds in the skin using a dot pattern. This fractional laser resurfacing system uses more shallow and wider dot patterns than traditional laser resurfacing systems which allows the skin surrounding the treatment areas to remain intact for faster healing and increased collagen production. DOT Laser Therapy is minimally invasive and requires little to no anesthesia. The laser is customizable for each patient’s specific needs and each treatment generally lasts under an hour, with minimal downtime.
With 25 years of experience using the healing qualities of lasers, the providers at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta’s Laser Institute of Georgia are proud to be part of the largest and most experienced laser center devoted to treatments of the skin in the Southeast.
Emitting pulses of laser energy through a controlled laser, tiny wounds are created to induce immediate skin tightening and collagen production. Since DOT lasers are customized for each patient’s specific needs and can be adjusted during treatment, DOT Laser Therapy is able to address a combination of skin conditions during the same treatment.
On the day of treatment, a topical anesthesia is applied to the treatment area for additional comfort. For DOT Laser Therapy on the full face, treatment generally lasts 20-30 minutes after which a cold compress and hydrating lotion is applied to give the skin added moisture during the healing process. The skin will resemble that of sunburned skin and will last up to a week, depending on the depth of the treatment. As the old skin starts to peel around day four or five, younger and fresher skin will start to reveal. Patients report normal appearance in 7-10 days; it is safe to resume the use of make-up three days after treatment. At Dermatology Associates of Atlanta, it is advised that patients avoid direct sun exposure to ensure optimal results.
How is DOT Laser Therapy different than previous CO2 lasers?
Traditional CO2 laser treatments were long and painful procedures that required lengthy recovery time, at minimum one week, and could not treat areas of the body other than the face. DOT Laser Therapy requires variable downtime and is dependent on the depth of the treatment required for each patient. For lighter treatments there may be no required downtime and up to a maximum of a week for deeper treatment. The DOT Laser Therapy system is also better suited to treat multiple conditions simultaneously as the CO2 fractionated laser can be customized for combination skin conditions unlike traditional CO2 lasers.
When can I see results after DOT Laser Therapy?
Results are generally seen after one treatment as DOT Laser Therapy promotes instant healing and collagen growth. The number of treatments required for optimal results varies by each patient and treatment goals. Your care plan will be discussed during a skin analysis by the providers at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta.
Are DOT Laser Therapy results long-lasting?
As environmental effects and the natural aging process will continue to have noticeable effects on the skin, additional DOT Laser Therapy treatments may be recommended to ensure the continued restoration of youthful skin. A basic daily skin care routine and use of broad spectrum sunscreen with adequate SPF are recommended to ensure lasting results.
